Lacy Waves Poncho

This day-to-evening style is ready to warm your shoulders when the air is chilly.
Skill Level
Intermediate
SizeWoman’s small (medium, large) Instructions are given for smallest size, with larger sizes in parentheses. When only 1 number is given, it applies to all sizes.
Finished Measurements
Circumference: Approx 60 (78, 90) inches at lower edge
Materials
  • Worsted weight cotton yarn* (182 yds/100g per skein): 2 (3, 4) skeins baby pink #310
  • Size 11 (8mm) 16- and 29-inch circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Size K/10 1/2/6.5mm crochet hook
*Sample project was completed with King Tut (100 percent mercerized cotton) from KFI.
Gauge
12 sts = 4 inches/10cm in pat
Exact gauge is not critical to this project.

Special Abbreviation
Inc (increase): Knit into front and back of same st.
Pattern Note
Change to longer circular needle as needed.
Poncho
With 16-inch circular needle, cast on 80 (104, 120) sts, place odd color marker for beg, join without twisting.
Rnds 1 and 2: *K1, p1; rep from * around.
Rnd 3: *K8, place marker; rep from * around.
Rnd 4: Knit around.
Rnd 5: *Inc in first st, knit to 1 st before marker, inc in last st; rep from * around. (100, 130, 150 sts)
Rnd 6: Knit around.
Rnds 7–14: [Rep Rnds 5 and 6] 4 times.
Note: 18 sts between each pair of markers at end of Rnd 14. (180, 234, 270 sts)
Rnds 15 and 16: Knit around.
Rnd 17: *[K2tog] 3 times, [yo, k1] 6 times, [k2tog] 3 times; rep from * around.
Rnd 18: Knit
[Rep Rnds 15–18] 8 (10, 12) times or until poncho is desired length.
Next 4 rnds: Purl around.
Bind off all sts knitwise.
Finishing
Note: If you are not familiar with crochet sts see the Stitch Guide at Crochet-World.com.
Rnd 1: With crochet hook and RS facing, sc in each st around edge, join with sl st in first sc, ch 1.
Rnds 2 and 3: Sc in each sc around, join with sl st in first sc, ch 1.
Rnd 4: Sc in each sc around, join with sl st in first sc, fasten off.
